His guide is Father Michael Fortounatto, formerly leader of the Choir at the Cathedral, who tells him about the traditions of this powerful and moving music. Aled Jones visits the beautiful home of the Russian Orthodoxy in London to find out about the wealth of choral music associated with this faith. His guide is Father Michael Fortounatto, formerly leader of the Choir at the Cathedral, who tells him about the traditions of this powerful and moving music. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes. Extract from Znamenny Chant - Ave Maria (Mother of God, Rejoice) Early Russian Polyphony SUCD 10-00013, track 17. Russian bells: From opening to Out of the Womb, before the Morning Star Russian CD. (Segue).

How did the Russian audience like the music by Sir John Tavener? The festival was intended to make both English renaissance sacred music (Taverner) and English contemporary sacred music (Tavener) better to known to Russian audiences. A great deal of interest was generated both by the concerts and the musicological conference. When I became Orthodox, at about the age of 23, I sang in the choir of the Russian Cathedral in London, under the direction of Father Michael Fortounatto. We would sing the service of the Resurrection at Pascha knowing it was being transmitted to Russia.

Once again A. Grindenko and the Russian Partiarchate Choir deliver to us a unique reconstruction of "lost" medieval Russian chant. In this instance, a complete divine liturgy from authentic documents of Russian znammeny chant that have been transcribed into western notation for performance. The sound and style will be unlike the Russian liturgical choral music most people are familiar with, to the extent that it may not be liked. At first it sounds too monotonous (notice the root word similarity to monotone and monody), but once past that initial reaction one realizes the complexity.

I ordered this from a seller and he sent me the wrong thing! I cannot reach im and yet you keep telling me to get a hold of him!He has my money and I want to exchange the wrong recording for the correct one. The LEAST you could do, is submit his address to me so we can communicate, but you sit back, do nothing and keep bouncing me back to Facebook! I do not have a Facebook. Discogs or other account and I do not wish to open any of these!
