Sketches of Spain is an album by Miles Davis, recorded between November 1959 and March 1960 at the Columbia 30th Street Studio in New York City. An extended version of the second movement of Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez (1939) is included, as well as a piece called "Will o' the Wisp", from Manuel de Falla's ballet El amor brujo (1914–1915). Sketches of Spain is regarded as an exemplary recording of Third Stream, a musical fusion of jazz, European classical, and styles from world music.

Sketches of Spain was Miles Davis working with conductor Gil Evans, which is why I can see some people not liking this as much as his previous album Kind of Blue. And this happens to a lot of artists. It works well as a classical mold around the Davis band and mixing it with latin themes adds that extra touch of originality

Along with Kind of Blue, In a Silent Way, and Round About Midnight, Sketches of Spain is one of Miles Davis' most enduring and innovative achievements. Recorded between November 1959 and March 1960 - after Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley had left the band - Davis teamed with Canadian arranger Gil Evans for the third time. Davis brought Evans the album's signature piece, "Concierto de Aranjuez," after hearing a classical version of it at bassist Joe Mondragon's house

Sketches Of Spain is a music studio album recording by MILES DAVIS (Jazz ive Rock) released in 1960 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Once hooked however this album (apart from sentimental association) is a significant release from Miles Davis with hints of progressive flavours throughout. No doubt darker, more menacing progressive albums to follow but Sketches of Spain is as great a place to start as any. Highlights of SoS are part two of Concierto de Aranjuez, the incredible version of Will o the Wisp and Solea.

Sketches of Spain is Miles Davis' d jazz album. It was recorded between November 1959 and March 1960 and its style goes from Third Stream to orchestral jazz and world music. In 2017, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard released an album called Sketches Of Brunswick East, referencing (and homaging) Davis' LP in its title. Sketches of Spain Q&A. Has this album been placed in any important lists? Yes! the famous music magazine Rolling Stone placed Sketches of Spain as on Rolling Stone’s definitive list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Sketches of Spain was perhaps the first Miles Davis album to inspire this question, though it certainly wouldn't be the last. Originally released in 1960, it was Davis' studio follow-up to the landmark Kind of Blue, and it found him, yet again, striking out in an entirely new direction. Working with arranger Gil Evans, Davis cooked up a concept album, looking to the structure and texture of Spanish folk and classical music for inspiration. The two old friends and collaborators were on a huge roll creatively during this period

Sketches of Spain is much more than a jazz album. Instruments include bassoon, French horn, and bass clarinet, some of the furthest instruments from jazz possible. With 27 musicians, the album puts Miles Davis in the grandest and most epic project he ever participated in. Although only five tracks long, Sketches of Spain spans over 40 minutes of slow, smooth music. Miles constantly takes the lead, playing either on trumpet or flugelhorn and utilizing his style to its greatest capacity. The orchestral swells and climatic pseudo-jazz shout choruses mixed together create one of the most original.
