This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About is the debut studio album by American rock band Modest Mouse, released on April 16, 1996 by Up Records. Many of the album's tracks focus on traveling by automobile and the loneliness associated with rural life. All lyrics written by Isaac Brock; all music composed by Modest Mouse. The album was released on Up Records on April 16, 1996, on both compact disc and vinyl formats. Many of the tracks focus on traveling by automobile, and the loneliness and isolation associated with rural life  . It helped me through it and a lot of other things going on at the time! Actions.

Author onlymodestmouse 2,350. THIS IS A LONG DRIVE FOR SOMEONE WITH NOTHING TO THINK ABOUT by Modest Mouse (1996) (Album Tab) -. Isaac Brock - guitars, vocals, (drums on "dog paddle") Jeremiah Green - drums, (bass on "dog paddle") Eric Judy - bass, (guitar on "dog paddle")  . As a last thing, this is what he does at 4:48 in the song, What you do is you strike the chord really fast (tremolo-ish picking): e- B--10-- G--9-- D--11-- A- E

This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About" expands upon the themes of emotional and geographic isolation found in the band’s early recordings, and finds the band mixing slow, brooding numbers with thrashing guitar workouts. The general mood here is one of loneliness and desperation, eloquently expressed through both the lyrics and the rhythmic, sprawling instrumentation.

Dramamine," for instance, with its driving, mid-tempo beat and ricocheting guitar line, sums up the hopelessness of a doomed relationship, while the frantic "Head South" deals with the feeling of "being ashamed of your old space. The mandolin, slide guitar, and cello featured throughout the album give the songs a certain degree of depth that makes them stand out from average indie rock fare.

As the Modest Mouse reissue train keeps rolling, the sound on these pressings continue to be fantastic and this is no exception! BUT I do have to ask if anyone else has noticed these tiny glitchy type noises all throughout the pressings for both This ia a Long Drive and Lonesome Crowded West. I have a colored version and black version of both and I notice this on every one. It's not overwhelming like a pop and it's not indiscernible like crackling; it is the same exact sound that appears in the background of the sound stage and it is pretty clear in quieter passages.

Modest Mouse quickly found purchase in the Pacific Northwest scene. In 1994, they made their first EP with Calvin Johnson in Olympia for his twee-punk label K Records, as well as a single for Seattle's Sub Pop. They also recorded the album Sad Sappy Sucker, which sat on the shelf until 2001, when it did indeed turn out to be their most K-style record-bright, baggy, and loose at the seams. During this time they veered off into a wilderness of their own devising, debuting with the darker and tauter This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About on Up Records in 1996

Reviews:
  • Lucam
Lovely pressing. I will add photos at some point.Color is a solid pale 'pepto-bismol' sort of pink.Really contrasts nicely with the blue tones of the art.
  • Qumenalu
I love the sound of this reissue. The version of Manic Depressive actually improves the song. A must for any Mouse fan.
  • Bloodhammer
Great album, excellent pressing. The color is very distinctive in person.
  • Mikale
I returned my copy to the shop I bought it from. Generally, the pressing isn't the worst, but it's nothing special. I didn't have a lot of noise like others have stated. The only real problem I came across was side D was pressed off center. Having been pressed at GZ in '14 it doesn't surprise me.
  • BORZOTA
Anyone know if this a gatefold or not? Just curious
  • Rias
Not gatefold sadly. I hate it when they cram two records into a single sleeve. Sounds great, though, and the records look awesome.
  • Walan
So, I have a copy of this album, and on side 'D' it has the wrong songs. Instead of having Make Everyone Happy, Space Travel is Boring, Edit the Sad Parts, and A Manic Depressive..., it has the songs from side 'D' of Lonesome Crowded West, Polar Opposites, Bankrupt on Selling, Lounge, and Styrofoam Boots. I've never come across something like this before and I was wondering if anybody else noticed this?
  • Cesar
It can't be an original pressing, because The Lonesome Crowded West didn't exist when this was released.Or Modest Mouse just travels through time, as they claim on The Ground Walks...
  • lets go baby
if anyone is willing to sell one of these, PLEASE let me know.
  • mr.Mine
I got a misprint. Side D is actually side D from The Lonesome Crowded West.
  • net rider
Yea me too! Where is Edit the Sad Parts?! I was a little upset at first.
  • Adorardana
Honestly, that's pretty cool.

It isn't the biggest deal but it certainly is annoying after a while.
  • Manemanu
anyone else getting an annoying skip during the last section of dramamine? i contacted newbury thinking it was a one-off thing, but sure enough, it was there on my replacement too!
  • skyjettttt
It actually was the last few secs of dramamine, but not the "skips" that are supposed to be there lol. The stylus would legitimately jump. Hasn't done it recently though, and I picked up a black copy that sounds absolutely perfect.
  • Goldenfang
i have some scratchiness on mine during some of the quieter parts, but no skip (unless you're referring to the last few seconds of dramamine, in which case, good one…)
  • Wild Python
nope! That's what I thought too! Glad to know it's not just me. Such an annoying skip, ugh
  • Nargas
holy shit I thought I messed my copy up but now I know i'm not the only one.
  • Thordibandis
Beautiful. Sounds amazing.
  • Naktilar
The U.K. edition on silver/black is limited to 300 copies according to Piccadilly Records.
  • Insanity
This version doesn't make sense.
  • Blacknight
It's been fixed. http://www.discogs.com/history?release=6237048
  • Mr.Twister
Those tiny white bumps are probably paper from the sleeve, I have lots of records like that, and it never comes loose. If it causes skipping, I would ask for another copy. If you ordered from glacial pace they would likely oblige. Have you tried a very thorough cleaning with an alcohol based solution?
  • Duzshura
Does anyone else have tiny white bumps in their copy which seem to be embedded in the vinyl? They cause my stylus to skip pretty badly.
  • Ranicengi
Sounds awesome and looks even better! Such a cool press. About time this masterpiece of an album saw a sweet reissue.
  • Silly Dog
Just recieved mine today, along with the 2 singles (color was a nice surprise), and I must say that they sound absolutely amazing. I have a pretty decent system, and these pressings were definitely made with care. As lo fi as these albums are, their analog warmth resonates through this analog medium more efficiently than any band in recent memory. I am do glad I just got an all tube preamp stage before these came. The sounds coming our of the speakers are simply beautiful!
  • Mavegar
I paid seperately for the singles, and I have no regrets because they are limited run color vinyl!
  • Faehn
Did you have to separately order the singles or were they included in preorder with the albums?
  • Gribandis
I can't wait for this to show up in my mailbox!...The US version that is.
  • Whitescar
Did anyone else notice Dramamine is misspelled on side A? Mine has "Dramanine" written as the first track.
