After listening to the Death Waltz pressing of this LP from a few years back, this original German pressing is definitely superior. The soundstage is wider, and the synthesizers are more dynamic. Though this is true, the Death Waltz pressing boasts the entire score, which this definitely does not have. The audio is of higher quality, but you miss many great cues and themes... I would honestly suggest having both!

Picked up a copy yesterday and listened to it straight through. Really good really quiet pressing, with great dynamics. The expanded version of the soundtrack is great to have as well. One of my favorite Carpenter scores, I like it more than I like the movie even.

In reference to the YouTube video posted of this entire record. Jesus - surface noise to the max on the vinyl! That sucks to be quite honest.
  • Iell
Solid release. The overall sound is very good. I have no loud pops or static. The amount of tracks is great and it looks awesome. I enjoyed the commentaries regarding the history of this underrated soundtrack.
  • Tekasa
Very quiet and dynamic pressing, nearly-ear-shattering loud passages do not distort and quiet passages sound fine and detailed, without audible surface noise.
  • HeonIc
Good pressing and cool design; a way better than DW edition and less expensive. REAL DEAL !!!! :)
  • Jieylau
Great release that might not be as luxurious as the DW release but it has the original artwork which is good. DW's cover was not that good to be honest even if the whole package design was stellar. I own both editions and as far as I´m concerned this edition (Silva Screen) sounds just as good as the DW edition. Recommended!
  • Gaua
The gatefold is awesome high quality cardboard and pictures but the vinyl has some bad spots on about 4 songs and that sucks.
  • Low_Skill_But_Happy_Deagle
This release was not remastered as it does state above.
  • Lost Python
Mine sounds fantastic, no issues whatsoever. The colour looks fantastic
  • MeGa_NunC
Here too, lucked out with a great clean press with no issues.
  • Runehammer
Very bad pressing. Many surface noise due to the poor quality of vinyl (re-cycling). Not the first time that a colored pressing are not good (Halloween III, Prince of Darkness…)Death Waltz should stop this kind of colored edition!
  • Forcestalker
my 3rd copy.....same problem! .....

I've been wanting to grab the original soundtrack of The Fog for sometime but haven't wanted to pay the outrageous prices. I would have grabbed the Death Waltz reissue but I wasn't impressed with their cover art. This version from Silva Screen is quite impressive with great care given to both the packaging and pressing. The cover is an image familiar with the Carpenter movie and the gatefold is packed with information about the remastering. There is a lot of music here over two records (one white, one greenish) as it covers the score, original soundtrack, and bonus material. The liner notes explain the challenges involved in taking Carpenter's original mono mixes and created a stereo space. The results are sonically pleasing with a full, cinematic sound. And while I haven't heard the original Varèse Sarabande or Death Waltz versions, I can't imagine they sound better than they do here. Also, the pressing is wonderful. Despite being on colored vinyl, the records play dead quiet even during the quietest moments from the score. One drawback is the price but it's a lot cheaper then the price for the original or even the Death Waltz reissue.Highly recommended!

"the records play dead quiet....." A and C side, yes ,dead quiet. but B and D side (i have 2 copy`s, same prob.) Terrible crackles: B side -The Fog Enters Town, and Revenge ...D side - Bake In The Sanctuary.. maybe factory defect..
  • Zahisan
Very nice reissue and good sound quality of this release. A little bit expensive but worth buying it if you love the music of The Fog and or John Carpenter ! Thumbs for Silva Screen Records !
  • Shem
Completely agree. Mine just arrived yesterday. Been listening to it constantly. Very good quality pressing. The low end is especially good. Silva Screen did a great job with the 'Escape From New York' S/T as well.
  • Early Waffle
Been through all Death Waltz variants and stuck with the black vinyl pressing as it is by far the best sounding one. If you want fancy looking vinyl you need the colour variants. If you want a proper sounding pressing of one of the most notorious horror flick soundtracks of all time, you need the black vinyl pressing. Period.
  • Ttexav
Not really a gold record but more of picture disc.Sound quality is reflected by this.
  • Juce
Really! My copy sounds great.

Death Waltz rules, stop being whiny little entitled babies. "Waaaah, I didn't get the Fog, so I'm going to cry like a baby with shit in my pampers". Grow up. As the Stones said, you can't always get what you want. If I was Spencer, I would try to match your screen names, and anyone who emailed/facebooked/tweeted him nasty comments, to future orders and cancel them, I'm sure there are plenty of appreciative non-whiners that would be more than happy to take your place

and now you guys are bad mouthing them on discogs. that is really unneeded since i cant think of one label that would apologize and explain themselves to there fans like they have. "i didnt get a record so u guys suck" DEATH WALTZ RULES!!!!! BUY THERE STUFF THEY ARE THE BEST HORROR SOUNDTRACK LABEL OUT THERE RIGHT NOW
  • Soustil
Yeah i think we/they/everybody understood.
  • Eigeni
you guys have to stop being babies. it is a LIMITED EDITION!!! if u didnt get one too bad. death waltz has told everyone and explained to everyone what was happening every step of the way. and even apologized to you. if you are that inrested in the soundtrack settle on a download. vinyls are not just for listening they are also collected that is something you have to deal with. i didnt get one either but i will say DEATH WALTZ RULES AND IM HAPPY FOR YOUR POPULARITY
  • Sorryyy
This is being repressed. Death Waltz have just announced it. So there's no need to pay any extortionate record flipper prices for it!!
  • Katius
What you guys overlook is that you have two obsessive markets converging into one with the vinyl collectors and horror enthusiasts in regard to Death Waltz. And now the secret is out of the bag, because they're not unknown anymore. I understand your frustration with this situation but when you have thousands of people converging on a site, constantly refreshing the page every two minutes, on a site that wasn't built to handle that kind of traffic, then bad things are going to happen. Death Waltz has only done right by me in the past when there's been a problem with my order, so I strongly disagree with the assessment that they have bad customer service. This is an anomaly that no one could have predicted. The Fog release itself is gorgeous.
  • Mr_NiCkNaMe
I agree with you...................it was a dirty strategy to sell all the copies in a few hours, and they have success in it.All the things you are relating happen to me too.Fortunately I can get my copy of The Fog here in Discogs in a price similar to Death Waltz online shop, but there are many few copies at this moment and prices are rising very fast.Very disappointed with Death Waltz.
  • Funny duck
A dirty stratergy ?Not a very good one considering it destroyed our site and caused everyone online to send some pretty horrible emails to us and decide to slag us of at every oppurtunity ! We have secured a repress and will be annoucing evey store that will have copies for sale to try and make sure people can get them. Hopeffully eveyone will be able to get the repress and have some faith restored in us (me) I am a fan just like you guys and put my heart and soul into every release

This is not a review just a (angry) statementBeen a fan of Death Waltz Recordings for quite a while and have a lot of their releases, but I am really angry about the way they were selling THE FOG yesterday on 17.06.2013. After having a lot of problems with the site the days before, the guys at Death Waltz were not able to have a fully working internet site when they released THE FOG. For example when I clicked on one item the shopping cart was showing obscure items I did not want: 3x Maniac, 2x The Fog, 1x Shirt. I was not able to delete and update the cart, could not update my location (sorry we cannot ship to your location) and of course could not proceed a checkout. I tried so many times the whole evening, but all my efforts failed. So, finally I gave up when all copies were sold and I was not able to grab even one. THANK YOU NOT Death Waltz, for a non-working site!!!!!! I had been waiting for the release since Death Waltz announced the release...THANK YOU NOT!!!!! I tried to contact Death Waltz three times on the evening, but they did not reply.Anyone else experienced the same I did?I mailed Spencer at Death Waltz, he said: "we didn't mess up . The internet messed up , we tested the site all day long and had no issues at all as soon as thousands of people starting hitting the site it caused database problems. Unfortunately sometimes things go wrong that are out of your hands, we closed the site and reopened on another server."I am no internet expert but this has never ever happened to me before and I have bought limited and die hard editions for example from Mondotees or Rise Above Records that sold out much faster than this one. I told Spencer that Death Waltz should consider to sell one copy per customer only in the future. And I will still say that the internet site was not working properly and they did mess up!

I am sorry you feel this way. I am certainly not arrogant and I certainly don't act that way. I am very humbled that people buy our records. We have always done pre -orders although we stopped this with Maniac and The Fog. Yes the records are more expensive from us we press them in exclusive colours, Yes of course you can buy them from your local store and support the. We have had one instance when records made it to stores befor our mail order shipped and that was because they shipped to our distributors early and they sent them out.We wont be offering pre orders any more as I don't like to see people pay upfront and wait for their goods. We are working to see if we can repress the Fog but it is down to the folks we licensed it from whether we can or not.We have grown very quickly and yes we have had some problems, we are a very small operation and we are currently looking a several options to have our mail order fullfilled by a third party with bigger and better resources which should make for a smoother experience all round.
