Dave and Paul had agreed to collaborate on a song called Whole Life to be released as one of the tracks on an EP titled 46664 One Year On. Like the earlier concert event, sales of the EP were to benefit the campaign against AIDS in Africa. Whole Life, was written and performed by both Dave and Paul, who does an energetic lead vocal while Dave plays guitar.

Paul Bley – a genuine visionary of jazz. His repertoire depended heavily on the compositions of two of the women with whom he had strong relationships: Carla Bley, his first wife, and Annette Peacock. After a year or so the arrival of the alto saxophonist Ornette Coleman and the trumpeter Don Cherry changed not just the line-up of the group, which became a quintet completed by the bassist Charlie Haden and the drummer Billy Higgins, but its entire approach.
